Who's Who In The Meridian Regional
The Meridian Regional is the newly formed Super Regional made up of 30 of Europe's top men and women and 10 of Africa's top athletes. While Africa has been producing better and better CrossFitters every year, they've never had to face the Europeans to qualify for the Games before so it'll be interesting to see how it all shakes out.
Men
Jonne Koski: The young protege to Mikko Salo, Jonne Koski did well in 2014 with a strong showing at the European Regional. Unfrotunately he didn't are as well at the CrossFit Games where strict deficit handstand push ups threw him for a loop during Push Pull. Perhaps this year we'll see some redemption during Event 6.
Frederik Aegidius: Not just Mr. Iceland Annie, Frederik Aegidius is a formidable CrossFitter who placed 15th overall at the 2013 CrossFit Games and barely missed out on qualifying for the 2014 Games. Aegidius is very proficient with chest to bar pull ups so look for him to do well on Event 6.
Lukas Hogberg: Known for coming back from an abysmal performance during the handstand walk at the 2014 Regionals to qualify for the Games, Hogberg is an intense competitor who will never quit. Look for him to put up a big snatch during Event 5.
Women
Annie Thorisdottir: Iceland Annie has been at the top of the podium at the CrossFit Games twice and is coming off of a 2nd place finish at the 2014 Games while recovering from an injury that kept her out of the 2013 CrossFit Games. While she'll be fine with the rope climbs in Tommy V, she's been known to struggle with muscle ups. If the standings are very close by Event 7, Annie may be in trouble.
Ragnheiour Sara Sigmundsdottir: Sigmundsdottir burst onto the scene at the 2015 East Coast Championships and beat out Lindsey Valenzuela and Sam Briggs to take the top spot. She's very good with muscle ups and squat cleans, so if her qualification comes down to Event 7, she'll be in a good position to capitalize.
Oxana Silvenko: Oxana Silvenko is a World Champion and Olympic medalist weightlifter from Russia with a PR snatch of 270 pounds. She won't have any issues in Event 5, but she's historically placed relatively poorly in longer endurance events so look for her during Event 3.
