Tuning Up For Regionals And The Pan Am Qualifier
This weekend The Hassle Free Barbell Club will host it's annual Spring Breakers Youth and Open Competition. On Saturday, March 28 all 17 and under lifters will compete with cash prizes going to the top men's, women's teams as well as top individual performances. Additional prizes will be earned for records and there is a chance several could fall. On Sunday, up to 100 lifters including members of Hassle Free and Greg Everett's Catalyst Athletics will also compete for a cash prize pool that could top $7,500. FloElite will be on hand to broadcast the entire event.
Highlighting the Youth competition on Saturday will be USAW's top ranked women's Youth lifter Megan Seegert. Seegert, a member of the 2014 Youth and Junior World Teams, could be ready to reclaim her previously held Youth 16-17 American snatch record. She'll need to add 2 kilos to her previous best 63kg snatch to do it.
Scheduled to compete Sunday's Open is Spanish Olympian and defending 75kg Euopean Champion Lydia Valentin. Lydia, who has lifted in the U.S before, won the top prize at the 2014 Arnold Weightlifting Championship. She is one of the best female lifters in the world at 75kg and will surely put on a show.
In what could be a tune up for the Regional / Pan Am Qualifier to be held in St. Louis the last weekend of April are Ariel Stephens (W69kg) and David Garcia (105kg) are also scheduled to compete. Ariel Stephens will be looking to continue her progress toward the top of the women's ranking list. With her 206kg total at the Arnold earlier this month she placed 6th overall in the women's open adding 3 kilos to her gold medal 203kg performance at the 2014 American Open. Currently 8th overall in the USAW women's rankings her close miss with 122kg in the C&J in Columbus would have left her in 3rd just outside the cut line for a spot on the Pan Am team.

David Garcia is currently the top 105kg lifter in the country and his standout performance earlier this month at the 2015 Arnold nearly put him inside the cut line for the Pan Am Team. He is ranked 4th just 0.23% behind Caine Wilkes for the final spot on the team. His 376kg total the Arnold would have been enough to win both the 2014 Nationals and American Open by a large margin and his 171kg snatch was just 2kg shy of the current American Record.

Lifting will start on Saturday* and run with the following tentative schedule.
