With the 2015 Granite Games starting in just a couple days, it's time to see who's got a real chance at making a splash at the event. We know what the events will be so here are our power rankings for the women's division for the 2015 Granite Games:
5. Emily Abbott
Emily Abbott finished 8th at this year's CrossFit Games with break out performances in Heavy DT, the max clean & jerk, and Midline Madness.
Where she really shined was in Sandbag 2015 which shows us that she's got the work capacity to get the job done when things get a little wild.
Unfortunately, her long event endurance is lacking as is her legless rope climbing skills, which is why she's 5th in this ranking.
4. Brooke Ence
Brook Ence had a pretty sweet rookie debut at the CrossFit Games. She won both the Snatch Speed Ladder and the max clean & jerk, and was very consistent up until the last few events where she had several poor placings back to back leading to a 14th place overall finish.
She'll do well on the heavier deadlifts and the front squat event, but I think the legless ropclimbs and her metcons will hold her back from a podium finish.
3. Annie Thorisdottir
You know her and you love her: two time CrossFit Games Champion Annie Thorisdottir.
Unfortunately her bid in the 2015 Games was cut short thanks to heatstroke, but if she's recovered she's a force to be reckoned with.
Annie is well known for her ability to push through just about any event and she'll excel at nearly all of these workouts. The thing that will give her the most trouble is the muscle ups in the final event: high volume muscle ups haven't been a strong suit for her and that's going to be the deciding factor in this competition.
2. Sara Sigmundsdottir
Another Dottir of Iceland, Sara Sigmundsdottir came out of nowhere and won the 2015 East Coast Championships and made a big splash at the 2015 CrossFit Games with a 3rd place finish overall.
Sara Sigmundsdottir is strong, skilled, and well conditioned. She'll crush most of the competition in most of these events. The only reason why she doesn't sit at the top of these rankings is because there's another force to be reckoned with coming out of Europe:
1. Sam Briggs
The Engine is a beast. Sam Briggs battled through major injuries to her SI joint and her foot in the 2015 CrossFit Games season. On limited training and barely recovered from these injuries she placed 4th overall.
Her biggest strength is her ability to hold what would be a suicide pace for anyone else. She's the best example of an engine in the women's side of CrossFit and that will be a huge advantage for her in a competition that stresses conditioning.
She won't win every event and will likely place disappointinly low in the front squat event, but her capacity will carry her through. Sam Briggs will win the 2015 Granite Games.
