Harrison Maurus earns TEAM USA silver medals at 2016 IWF Youth World Championships
While many of us had a rest day on Sunday morning, Harrison Maurus took the international stage and earned a silver medal for Team USA at the 2016 IWF Youth World Championships in Penang, Malaysia, capping a perfect follow up to the events in the days prior. Harrison was in a tight competition with four other 77kg lifters with entry totals around his own, but once the weights were on the bars, only one lifter would be able to stay ahead of Maurus.
Maurus took the lead with his first snatch until Colombia's Yeison Lopez came on. But between these two youth titans, no one else stood a chance of coming anywhere near Maurus for the silver in the snatch and clean-and-jerk. Maurus' only missed lift was at 182kg/401lbs, and he finished 5 of 6 for the day.
He closed with an impressive 145kg/320lb snatch and a 176kg/388lb clean-and-jerk:
