Jacob Heppner Will Not Qualify For Regionals
For the second year in a row, we will be missing Jacob Heppner from the CrossFit Games.
Jacob Heppner will not qualify for the 2018 CrossFit Games Regionals and will be out of the rest of the season.
According to Heppner, the new handstand push-up measurement for 18.4 put him in a position which made it nearly impossible for him to do any good reps.
The math he's using checks out (as well it should since he was a math major in school). The new measurement was your height plus half of the length of your forearm. For nearly everyone this made the handstand push-ups more difficult, but for a small percentage of the population it made them nearly impossible.
This is due to the ratio of forearm length to arm length, not the absolute length of the forearm. In Heppner's case, his forearms make up a disproportionate amount of the total length of his arms, meaning he had a very large amount of distance to cover, but not the actual full length of arms necessary.
As you can see in the video above, his hands are nearly under his head which is a terrible position.
Heppner had to keep out of the 2017 CrossFit Games Open due to knee issues, and will now be missing from the 2018 CrossFit Games as well. In 2016, Jacob Heppner took seventh at the CrossFit Games and won the handstand walk event there.
