Carleen Mathews continues to control the West with a first-place (and second-fastest of all Regionals thus far) finish in Event 6, which solidifies her spot in Carson. Margaux Alvarez, who climbed back into a qualifying spot yesterday, kept up with Mathews’ pace to finish just behind her. Margeaux historically does well in longer events, which showed once again in the chipper today. Abbott put up another good showing, finishing third and illustrating how well-rounded she has become.
Jenna Gracey also fought her way into a qualifying spot. Gracey, who has been a multi-year Regional and Team Games competitor, has been on the bubble the entire weekend. Her fifth-place finish in Event 6 puts her only three points out of a qualifying spot going into the final event.
With only 30 points separating fourth through eighth and one event remaining, the battle for the last two qualifying spots will be fierce.
