Panchik’s Start Day 1 Strong
The gif-worthy moment of Event 1 at Central Regionals would be in heat 3. Saxon Panchik and Bobby Noyce raced to finish their final snatches at 265lbs. and it looked like the winner was determined when Bobby Noyce stood up with his bar. However, Noyce seemingly knowing Panchik was right there, quickly took off for the finish mat. On his way he tripped over his barbell costing him a finish time three seconds slower than Panchik. Saxon took a third place finish in heat 3, and a 16th place finish overall in Event 1. He’s starting off the weekend much stronger than his 26th place finish in Event 1 last year.

Older brother Scott Panchik’s performance wasn’t too shabby either. The final heat was a battle between Alex Anderson, Scott Panchik, and Sam Dancer. Panchik started on pace to beat the event record set by Mat Fraser an hour earlier, but did eventually slow down. Panchik hit his first rep at 265lbs. and Anderson answered a moment later. While Panchik walked back to the red line behind them for rest, Anderson took no more than a few seconds of rest before making his next attempt. Alex Anderson took the event win with a time of 6:18, Scott Panchik took second with 6:19. Sam Dancer surfed into third place on the finish mat (literally) with a time of 6:42.
