Athletes faced all kinds of unusual elements first thing in the morning Saturday. Triple Double is the first team Games event we've seen the use of the SkiErg. Athletes also performed double unders on the grass, but with a thicker, heavy handled rope (a rope that isn't theirs at that). Furthermore, teams were required to move all of the equipment throughout the event (SkiErgs, mats, barbells, etc.).
In the first heat, we saw CrossFit Torian cruise through the double unders most team visibly took longer to adjust to. They came into the day in last place, so they were in need of as many points as they could pick up. CrossFit XY chased after Reebok CrossFit East Woodbridge for the lead. CrossFit 417 was consistent in their synchronized muscle ups and eventually took the lead, but it wasn't long before East Woodbridge held on to it again. In the last few minutes it was only one point that separated the top three teams. East Woodbridge opened up their lead in the last 90 seconds, but it became a race to move the equipment between them and 417. Neither team was able to get a rep in, resulting in no time to beat being set in the first heat, but rather a number of reps. The two teams reached the time cap with 104 reps remaining, for a time of 25:45.
Invictus was going into the event 54 points out of the top 12 in the second heat. They traded off the lead throughout the 24 minutes, but ended up holding onto it and setting a new number of reps to beat. The 2014 Affiliate Cup Champions finished with 57 reps remaining for a third place and their best finish overall. CrossFit 808 and CDR Redlands also had strong performances in the heat, finishing second and third respectively.
Going into the final heat CrossFit Dynamix sat only 20 points out of a podium spot. Diablo CrossFit, Boise CrossFit, and Mayhem led early, but Mayhem took the event win with 10 reps remaining at the time cap.
