The dumbbell event was introduced to the Arnold Classic in 2005, based off the heaviest dumbbell owned and created by early 20th-century Strongman, Thomas Inch. Hence, the dumbbell was named the Thomas Inch which weighed in at 172lbs with a 2.47” handle.
In 2005, Hugo Girard & Brian Siders tied with 10 reps a piece on the Thomas Inch replica. In 2006, The Sorin Dumbbell was introduced weighing in at 200lbs At that time, the thought of a 300lb dumbbell press was not believed to be possible by many, but here we are 10 years later with just that. Introducing the Challenge Dumbbell:

This year, there will be two dumbbells to choose from; the 274lb Cyr Dumbbell and the 300lb Challenge dumbbell. Scored like the Austrian Oak Log Press, where 1 rep with the 300lb dumbbell beats any number of reps with the 274lb dumbbell.
Look for last years winners of the event, Dimitar Savatinov & Brian Shaw, to have the best shot at the 300lb dumbbell and the event win. Especially considering their recent training videos.
Shaw’s consistency has great technique on the dumbbell press, which translates into event wins.

Savatinov has already shown video of a 303lb circus dumbbell press in training. The former circus Strongman is always a strong favorite in the dumbbell press. An event win in the dumbbell could be what helps propel him to a podium finish.

Don’t count out 2013 champion Vytautas Lalas, who is returning to competition after getting injured in 2014. If on top form, Lalas is one of the best in the world at this event.
Bjornsson continues to look like he is in the best shape ever this year, with this 284.4 lb lift in training. I predict he bests last year's performance of reps on the Cyr Dumbbell.

The circus dumbbell seems to be the only overhead event that Savickas can be challenged in. The Challenge dumbbell being introduced this year may favor Big Z, as brute power has never been an issue for the 7-time champion. 1 rep on the 300lb dumbbell will be a big key in Zydrunas claiming his 8th Arnold title.
Hall only managed one rep on the Cyr dumbbell last year. His shoulder mass seemed to limit him from getting in a good position to press. If he has improved upon his technique and can utilize his strength better he could have the most improved performance from last year.
Kieliszkowski managed two reps last year at just 21 years of age, and very explosive. I predict the Polish Strongman improves to 3-4 reps this year.
