With 175 lifters scheduled to compete, The MIA Summer Classic, hosted by Team Soul Weightlifting has grown to one of the nation’s largest USAW local events. FloElite will be in Ft. Lauderdale this weekend to live broadcast the two-day event from the Revolution Live Concert Hall. The competition is a draw for top National and International weightlifting talent in all weight classes and categories.  Past participants include Leo Hernandez (77), Donny Shankle (105), Andrew Davis (+105), Morghan King (53), and Mattie Rogers (58).  This year several athletes from MDUSA including Jarred Flemming (94) and Holley Mangold (+75) will be there to compete for the $1,000 cash prizes payable to the top male and female athletes.   The Nationals qualifying period ends on 7/5/15 so this could be the last opportunity for lifters looking to qualify to compete in Dallas 8 weeks from now. The two day event will feature Youth, Junior and Masters on Saturday morning then roll into the Senior categories starting at 1PM.     The highlight of the day, perhaps the competition, could come from the women’s 58KG class (Session 4) as 3 top tier National lifters square off.  Kristin Pope of Coffey’s Gym will be up against Lauren Rutan and Lindsay Stroker of MDUSA. Pope has lifetime PR’s of 80kg (snatch) and 92kg (C&J) while Rutan’s lifetime bests are 71kg/92kg. Stroker’s are 71kg/94kg with the 94kg PR coming just last month. All are within striking distance of each other and all are registered to compete in Dallas at Nationals (Stroker as a 53kg).   Sunday will open with the Women’s 63kg class which includes national level lifter, Crossfit regional and Miami Surge Grid League competitor Nicole Capursco.  The day will be highlighted by MDUSA’s Jarred Fleming in the (94KG) and 2012 Olympian Holley Mangold (+75KG) who both look well situated to take the competition’s outstanding lifter prizes.  Mangold will be competing for the USA at the Pan Am Games in July.
