Caitlin Hogan Set American Record At Her First World Championship
Dec 1, 2017
Team USA's Caitlin Hogan didn't have the exact meet she was hoping for at the 2017 IWF World Championships, but she was still able to break a nearly 10-year-old American Record and improve on her total.
Hogan's session started off great with a solid first snatch at 83kg, but her follow up lifts at 86 and 87 kilos both fell short, putting her in a precarious position.

Going into the clean & jerk phase of the competition, weightlifting legend and Team USA member Pyrros Dimas told Hogan to relax: "no one cares about the snatch, everyone wants to see a big clean & jerk."
Hogan set aside her two failed lifts to look to the clean & jerks for redemption and found it with a 111kg clean & jerk which resulted in a PR c&j, PR total, and an American Record total.

Hogan will likely take some time off before her next competition, but she was just a few missed lifts away from potentially medalling on the World stage and her sights are set on doing big things. After speaking with her and her coach, Sean Waxman, I think she's shooting to make a splash at Pan Ams, possibly even chasing a Pan American record while there. Time will tell!
