Over the 15 years of the Arnold Strongman Classic, the most consistent event also happens to be the final event, the timber carry. A huge wooden frame carried up a wooden ramp. A monstrous version of the farmers walk, which you have probably done in competition or your own training. What separates the timber carry is the sheer size of the implement, and the unique challenge of having to carry it up an inclined ramp. It was introduced weighing 825lbs, and the only year it was not in the contest was 2013. The heaviest it ever was without straps was 881, and this will be the fourth year that straps are allowed. Weighing in at 1102lbs, it is exactly the same as last year, so we can have a good gauge of what to expect from the athletes based on last year.

There's a reason Brian Shaw is the World's Strongest Man and this weekend he'll be competing at the 2016 Arnold Classic where they'll be tested on a 1RM deadlift. In prep for that event, here's Brian Shaw with the easiest, smoothest, butteriest 1001lb deadlift you'll ever see. Check it out:

The Spine Crushing Bale Tote laughs at prior Strongman events, such as the Fridge Carry, Super Yoke, and Car Walk. In the heaviest strength contest ever, a simple 1,000lb Super Yoke would just not suffice on the Arnold stage. Introducing the event that made the athletes cringe when introduced in 2014: The Bale Tote.

The dumbbell event was introduced to the Arnold Classic in 2005, based off the heaviest dumbbell owned and created by early 20th-century Strongman, Thomas Inch. Hence, the dumbbell was named the Thomas Inch which weighed in at 172lbs with a 2.47” handle.

Introduced in 2012, the Austrian Oak is the second event of the Arnold Classic. The Austrian Oak is a true log of mammoth proportions built by Steve Slater; and in my opinion, the most beautiful piece of Strongman equipment ever made. The log is made from wood, so the weight varies year to year, but typically is around 440-460+lbs. Last year seemed to be a heavy year, as Zydrunas Savickas was the only athlete able to lockout the Oak overhead. Of course, he did it for 4 reps to rub it in everyone else's face. For those that cannot press the Austrian Oak, they get a chance at the feather log which weighs in at a “light” 375 or so pounds. 1 rep with the Austrian Oak beats any number of reps with the feather log, so a bit of strategy comes into play here.

One of the major changes this year at the Arnold is the deadlift. Gone is the iconic hummer tire deadlift, and in its place is a deadlift from standard height, with a not so standard bar. Introducing the Rogue elephant bar...
